2003
Farella Alta
Farella Alta,
our Proprietary or “Bordeaux” blend,
comes from different parts of our vineyard estate, composed of 70% Cabernet
Sauvignon
and 30% Merlot. There
were only 210 cases produced. It was fermented warm in a combination
of open and closed tanks, pressed off after cap fall, with 20 days average
on the skins. Transferred directly to Taransaud French oak from the Nevers
region after press-off (75% new). Aged 28 months
in barrels with 3 rackings. Unfined
and unfiltered.
With ripe strawberry,
blueberry, and cassis fruit, and a touch of cherry intertwined with
dark chocolate, black olive, and smoke. The flavors are full, round
and smooth with complex layers, succulent fruit and intense, dark
chocolate/black
olive backbone to
the fine-texture tannins. Smooth and intense yet balanced
for service with food.

2004
Farella-Park Cabernet Sauvignon
One hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon from our estate
vineyard in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley known locally as "Coombsville." It
is a combination
of our Old Vine & Rockpile blocks which are positioned on a fairly steep
slope facing
due west. For the cooler Coombsville area, this gives ideal exposure to the late
afternoon
sun, a key to slow development of color & tannin. 195 Cases produced. Fermented
fairly warm in a combination of open and closed tanks, pressed off
after cap fall, 20 days total on the skins. Transferred directly to French oak
from the
Nevers region after press-off, 40% new. Aged 28 months in barrels with 2 rackings.
Unfined
and unfiltered.
Rich, robust mouthfeel with ample yet fairly soft tannins. Aromas
and flavors of calamata olives, strawberry/cassis fruit, blackberry,
deep, smoky spice and a hint of licorice. Long, supple finish for a
wine of this structure.

2005
Farella-Park Syrah
New from our Coombsville vineyard in Napa Valley
comes a deep, rich, robust Syrah that is catching the attention
of fans of bigger, juicier styles of wine. True to our “house” objectives,
it still maintains an overall food friendliness but with a catch:
the alcohol on this wine hovers around 15% so this is no quaffer.
The name “Road Block” describes the site for the
grapes as they run alongside our driveway
for a quarter-mile.
Deep
purple color, rich plum and blueberry aromas and flavors overlaid
by smoky, toasty oak. Slightly meaty and coarse in the mid-palate
but the richness and big fruit ties it all together. The finish is
very smooth and rich, partly due to elevated alcohol but no perceptible “heat” for
a wine of this fortitude. Holds up well when open for several days. 88
cases produced
and aged
28 months in French oak barrels from the Nevers region, 50% new.
Bottled
unfined and unfiltered. Racked once at bottling. 3.70 pH 0.60 TA 15.0% Alc. Release:
May 2007 .

2003
Farella-Park Merlot
Our 2003 Merlot is a blend of two separate blocks within
our vineyard and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon which broadens the structure
of the wine and adds a touch of spice. This is a vintage where Merlot
shows it's strength as a full, red varietal with a pleasing softness.
Time in the bottle will enhance the more succulent characteristics
and intensify the classic claret "cigar
box" spice. Merlot 95% and Cabernet Sauvignon 5% from our estate
vineyard in the southeastern corner of Napa Valley known locally as "Coombsville." 205
cases produced. Aged 28 months in French oak barrels from the Nevers
region,
20% new. Bottled
unfined and unfiltered.
Medium-full
bodied with soft, elegant tannins, excellent structure for ageing
and a long, supple finish. Aromas and flavors of plum/cassis fruit
with cedar, smoke and spice. Approachable now but will age very
well and gain complexity for many years to come.
$22.00 per bottle. Click

2007

wines. Aromas and flavors of melon, citrus and light mineral
notes. Splendid with food.
